A healthy mouth starts with regular brushing, flossing, and regular check ups with your dentist.

If your teeth are left unattended, you may be at risk for Gum (Periodontal) disease.

Dental Hygiene

Daily cleaning of your teeth, gums, and tongue is important for the prevention of tooth decay, bleeding gums, and oral infections. Good dental hygiene is also key to good health, especially if you have risk factors such as diabetes or heart conditions. It helps to prevent a build-up of plaque and tartar and the bacteria that can cause tooth decay. Dental hygiene also lowers the need for expensive treatments that could have otherwise been prevented.

A happier and healthier you begins with a consistent dental hygiene routine. Basics such as brushing and flossing twice daily, along with regular office visits for cleaning and preventative care will help you to develop strong teeth and gums, and overall good health.

Dr. Khan and his caring staff will do their part to give you the very best in dental hygiene care at your office visits. Do your part by continuing a good oral hygiene program at home, and you will help to ensure that you will have a healthy and attractive smile.

Gum Disease

Periodontal or more commonly known as gum disease, forms over time due to plaque building up on the teeth which eventually becomes tartar, which allows for bacteria to build up on the teeth and gums. This early stage of periodontal disease is known as Gingivitis, and if left untreated will cause damage to the tissue, teeth, and bones of the mouth and jaw. There are very few warning signs for this disease, so it is very important to have regular checkups and take proper care of your teeth by brushing and flossing. If you are concerned about having periodontal disease, call us and schedule a visit right away!

Scaling & Root Planing (Deep Cleaning)

Scaling and root planing, otherwise known as deep cleaning, may sound intensive and a little scary, however, it is a very simple treatment that combats gingivitis. Gingivitis is a tooth decay disease where bacteria multiply due to excessive plaque and tartar sitting on the teeth. Usually caused by lack of brushing, early signs can be sensitive gums that will become inflamed and bleed. Luckily, the procedure to combat this does not call for surgery and can usually be fixed quickly. Many may recognize this as when your dentist uses metal hooks to scrape off plaque and tartar from your teeth.

Antibiotic Therapy (Arestin)

Heal Your Gum Disease At The Cause

ARESTIN® (minocycline hydrochloride) Microspheres, 1 mg, is an antibiotic that fights the bacteria that are the cause of periodontal disease. Dr. Khan may recommend ARESTIN® along with your SRP (scaling and root planing) as part of your treatment to help improve the health of your teeth and gums. ARESTIN® is in the form of time-released microspheres and is placed in the pockets above and below your gum line, delivering the antibiotic right where you need it.

Splitting of Teeth (Periodontal Splinting)

Periodontal Splinting is the solution to loose teeth that cause issues when trying to enjoy eating in day-to-day life. It may seem like a lost cause when trying to find a solution. On top of the pain when eating, loose teeth can cause injury and pressure due to tooth misalignment and can even cause gum tissue to deteriorate. Dr. Khan will create a custom splint for your loose teeth to ensure a healthy smile. It is a simple procedure where the affected teeth are connected to stable, healthy teeth to help them to stay fixated. This is a very effective and safe procedure that will help you live your life very comfortably.

Frenectomy

If you or your children suffer from irregular speech patterns or teeth that are not properly aligned, a frenectomy may be a solution. This is a very minor surgical procedure in which the frenulum, a piece of tissue that is between the lip and gums and under the tongue, is cut to create a solution for these problems.

It can be performed right in Dr. Khan’s office and will take at most 15 minutes. With modern technology, this can be done using lasers, which cause little to no bleeding and does not require stitches. This also causes less discomfort after the procedure is completed and faster healing times. During the procedure, children receive general anesthesia and adults receive locally. If you think this will benefit you or your children will benefit from this procedure, give us a call us. We serve patients from Toledo OH, Oregon OH, Ottawa Hills OH, Perrysburg OH, Woodhurst OH, Sylvania OH, and Shoreland OH.
